PROM - Premature rupture
of membranes
- Premature rupture of foetal membranes (PROM) is when the foetal membranes break prior to labour.
- If PROM occurs before 37 weeks, there is a greater risk of pregnancy complications.
The PROM test checks for leakage of amniotic fluid in pregnant women to determine if PROM has occurred. It detects a chemical called IGFBP-1, which is found in very high concentrations in amniotic fluid. Prompt diagnosis allows necessary treatment to be carried out for the optimal safety for the mother and unborn child.
Test features:
- Extremely sensitive, can detect microrupture or full rupture of the foetal membranes.
- The test is undertaken from a simple vaginal swab sample.
- Gives a safe, accurate and reliable result in just 15 minutes.
