B streptococcal

• Approximately 40% of neonatal infections in the first 3 days are caused by streptococcus B, which can become serious and lead to meningitis and septic shock.
   
• It leads to colonization in approx. 50% of babies born to mothers with a vaginal or rectal infection.

An early diagnosis in the pregnant woman is extremely important as premature babies are very often affected.
